1.What/Who motivated you to compete in beauty pageants?
I started competing in beauty pageants when I was 17 years old. I was drawn to them because I was no longer playing basketball. However, I still needed something to feed my competitive spirit. Just like any competition, there is a great deal of work that is required. With beauty pageants not only are you in competition with other beautiful girls, but you are also in competition with yourself. You have to be in the best physical and mental health possible. Having a hobby is extremely important, mine just requires beautiful gowns and sparkly crowns.
2. What has been your favorite part throughout your beauty pageant journey? My favorite part of the pageant journey has seen myself grow as a person. Pageants have given me the space to work on myself physically and mentally. To exude confidence on stage and in front of other competitors, you have to be truly confident in yourself and love yourself first. Having that confidence not only shows on stage, but it carries over to your day to day life.
3. What type of fitness training are you into and what is the typical meal plan for a beauty contestant?
During competition season, I typically do cardio 5-6 times a week and lift weights 3-4 times a week. I also and much more restricted on my diet. I stay away from alcohol, red meat, dairy, processed snacks, and food high in sugar, I also include fruits with a high sugar content, but I will have an occasional (once a month) cheat day when I indulge in a piece of chocolate cake or have a glass of red dry wine. During the off-season, I stay in shape by enjoying the foods and drinks that I love, “pizza, beer, and wine, and sushi”, but at a much more moderated rate, maybe once or twice a month. I continue to eat veggies, fish, and ground turkey, while I keep up a 3-4 days a week cardio and lifting session routine. The biggest key to my fitness success is meal prepping and time management. For me, if I want to eat more I have to work out more, and if I don’t feel like working out or I don’t have time my meal sizes are smaller, and lower in calories.

4. Share your favorite beauty brands/products.
I love my Mario Badescu facial spray. I use it as a priming spray, a setting, spray, and as burst moisture throughout the day or when I am traveling. Another favorite of mine is Ulta’s line of brow pomade. Being a girl that does not wear a lot of makeup, these two things keep me picture ready in any setting.
5. Can you share a beauty tip with us?
Drink a gallon of water a day, wash your face every night, and use cocoa butter as a moisturizer. When I am not doing pageants, I very rarely wear makeup, but those three things keep my skin smooth and clear for a fresh face look every day.
6. What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell myself it is okay not to be okay. It took me a very long time to understand the airplane reference of putting your air mask on first, but once I learned that self-care is not selfish, I have seen myself grow and flourish professionally, in pageants, and in maintaining relationships. I am also more confident and care about myself a lot more. I am able to voice my opinions without the fear of displeasing someone else, and I am comfortable asking for help. Being able to speak up for yourself if you are not feeling 100% is not a weakness it is a strength, and that is something I think everyone needs to learn.
